The Lebanon Recreation & Parks Department is dedicated to ‘inspire play’ by providing a variety of quality recreation programs, special events and recreational facilities for the community’s use and enjoyment. The department provides over 130 special events and programs in a typical year, including team and individual sports programs and camps, savvy senior outings, outdoor adventures and performing and creative arts.

Events include summer concerts in Colburn Park, holiday celebrations, races, sports tournaments and the Lebanon Farmers’ Market. Lebanon has been called “Sportstown USA” by Sports Illustrated, Tree City USA and named one of the Top 5 US Cities to Raise a Child by the Outdoor Foundation.

An extensive park and conservation land trail system, skate park, accessible playground/picnic area, ball fields, two ski areas, an outdoor skating rink and a state-of-the-art outdoor pool provide plenty of year-round outdoor recreation for residents and visitors of all ages. The scenic Northern Rail Trail, complete with the historic Packard Hill Covered Bridge, picnic areas and views of the Mascoma Lake and River, is an all-season attraction for cyclists, walkers, joggers and skiers.

For summer fun, ponds, lakes and golf courses are plentiful. Crystal Lake and Mascoma Lake in Enfield and Canaan Street Lake in Canaan offer swimming, boating and fishing. The Mascoma and Connecticut Rivers offer opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. Golf courses and driving ranges offer all levels of challenge.

Hiking, camping and fishing opportunities are plentiful in the area. The Lebanon Conservation Commission maintains more than 25 miles of woodland hiking trails within Lebanon’s city limits.

Snowshoeing, skiing, tubing and snowboarding are popular winter activities. The Storrs Hill Ski Area offers downhill skiing, a snowboard park and ski jumps, and more than a dozen world-class ski resorts for alpine and cross-country enthusiasts are within a two-hour radius.

In every season, visitors and residents can enjoy ice skating, ballet classes, dance, gymnastics, tae kwon do or karate classes. The Lebanon area hosts bowling, indoor games, and several excellent fitness centers with cardio classes, swimming and more.

Our member towns (Lebanon, Canaan, Enfield and Plainfield) host excellent public libraries with activities for all ages and high-speed internet access.
